Kristensen Weisberg, LLP Sues Wal-Mart; Yifang USA After Home Destroyed by Fire from Exploding NextBook Tablet

Los Angeles, CA - Kristensen Weisberg, LLP announced they, along with the Rossman Law Group PLLC, have filed a complaint and demand for a jury trial in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles on behalf of their client, Anna Munson, alleging negligence and failure to warn/negligent recall on the part of Yifang USA Inc., Yifang Inc. and WAL-MART STORES, Inc. The complaint alleges that on February 23, 2015, after a Nextbook Tablet manufactured by Yifang was purchased from Wal-Mart it's battery exploded as Ms. Munson slept, severely injuring Ms. Munson and burning her home to the ground.

The complaint alleges that Yifang and Wal-Mart knew about the defects in the product, yet failed to recall the tablet, repair the defect or disclose the safety dangers to the owners of the tablets.

"It is outrageous that Yifang and Wal-Mart would sell a product they knew to be defective without regard for their obligations to protect the consumers they serve," said John Kristensen, attorney for Munson. "Instead of recalling the product, they slashed the prices and made a product with cheaper materials that are more prone to catastrophic failure. This includes a battery system that is prone to spontaneously burst into flames and start fires in people's homes! As a result, our client has suffered scarring and disfigurement and almost lost her life."

"We intend to prove that Yifang knew that the tablet batteries were dangerous and they were motivated by a desire to push as many of these cheap units as possible on an unsuspecting public," said Eric S. Rossman, also an attorney for Munson. "They knew the Nextbook Tablets were prone to combustion and their failure to warn their customers has had a devastating impact on our client and potentially others."

The case is Munson v. Yifang USA Inc., dba E Fun; Yifang Digital Technology Company Ltd.; and Wal-Mart Stores Inc., case number BC 610143, filed in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles-Stanley Mosk Branch.
